| APRICOT provides opportunities mainly for retired Church members, attenders, and invited friends to get together between Sundays for meetings, meals and outings, and thus have an improved quality of social, educational and spiritual life. |
APRICOT was founded in 1993; it is self-funding and currently involves about 60 people. It tries particularly to cater for the more elderly, many of whom have lost partners, transport, or personal mobility, and thus are unable to enjoy contacts and outside events without some assistance. A major feature of APRICOT life is an excellent monthly meal, prepared by Mrs Pam Cooper and her team of cooks and waiters. This is normally on the third Friday of each month at the Church from 12.45 to 3pm. Throughout the year, between the meals, we have about 15 Church or house meetings and half-day or whole-day outings depending on the season. The meetings, usually from 2 to 5pm, on various weekdays, include playing table games, quizzes, travel/scenic/documentary videos, taped music, time to chat and hear local news, tea/coffee and cakes, and occasional reminiscences and talks. The outings, usually by hired Hounslow Community Transport minibus and/or private cars, allow visits to famous gardens and houses, museums, towns and shopping centres, waterways, coastal resorts, distant friends, and other places of interest in London and SE England. |
